The ASC is proud to have the legendary Aaron Neville Duo performing on the Jemison Stage! This intimate performance will include classic doo-wop hits from the album, My True Story, as well as some of Neville’s most popular tunes. » With My True Story, Neville revisits the music he grew up with, and adds a few new spins along the way. Neville’s first release for Blue Note Records is a collection of doo-wop numbers performed in his utterly inimitable vocal style, and co-produced by Blue Note President Don Was and Keith Richards. » The selections on the album include classics by such giants as Little Anthony and the Imperials (“Tears on My Pillow”), Hank Ballard and the Midnighters (“Work with Me, Annie”), and the Drifters (“Money Honey,” “Under the Boardwalk,” “This Magic Moment”). To Neville, though, these songs weren’t just the soundtrack to his youth; they became the underpinning for the music he has created across five decades. » “I attended the university of doo-wop-ology,” he says.

The ASC is known for bringing unique artists to Birmingham, and this performance is no exception. » The evening will feature six virtuoso guitarists from California Guitar Trio (CGT) and Montreal Guitar Trio (MG3) performing arrangements of classical works and innovative takes on rock standards. Can you imagine surf music next to psychedelic, classical music next to Spaghetti Western themes, and Pink Floyd next to Bach? This performance is sure to be a delightful experience for any music enthusiast. » Collectively, they represent four countries and fuse over 40 years of combined performing experience into one unique six-by-six-string “phenomensemble.” » In a pleasantly surprising way, CGT’s steel stringed-guitars blend naturally with MG3'’s nylon-stringed guitars, as each trio’s fret boards chase the other’s original compositions and new arrangements of progressive rock, jazz, and classical music.
