Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

and Young the Giant

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts
Chattanooga, TN -   Joan Jett is an originator, an innovator, and a visionary. As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, she's had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics "Bad Reputation," "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "I Hate Myself For Loving You," and "Crimson and Clover."

Her music has become a permanent force in mainstream culture. A version of "I Hate Myself for Loving You" has been NBC's Sunday Night Football, performed this past season by Carrie Underwood, and her music is heard in countless films and TV shows including Easy - A, Kick Ass, The Runaways, Shrek, Baby Mama, and many more.

Jett and the Blackhearts continuously tour across the globe to throngs of adoring fans.

Joan Jett has spent her lifetime breaking barriers and challenging expectations - this is, after all, a woman who is both a spokesperson for PETA and a devoted supporter of the US Military. She's fought hard for all of her historic accomplishments, yet she remains humble and appreciative.

"I've had a blessed career," she says. "I consider myself so lucky to have been able to do things my own way."

We consider ourselves lucky to have her here for Riverbend Festival 2014.  Don't miss Joan Jett & The Blackhearts on the Coke Stage, Friday, June 13th at 9:30 pm.

Young The Giant

With a hot 2010 debut album and a reputation for exhilarating live shows, Young The Giant has quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new bands to come out of Southern California in recent memory.  But, they'll be on the East Coast this summer when they hit the Riverbend Festival Coke Stage Saturday, June 14th at 9:30 pm.

Their latest album Mind Over Matter features the electrifying lead single "It's About Time," the collection of songs finds the young band challenging themselves both lyrically and musically.  The release follows the band's eponymous debut which featured singles such as "Apartment" and the RIAA gold certified hits, "My Body" and "Cough Syrup." "My Body" was a top 5 hit at Alternative radio and closed 2011 as the year's fifth most-played song at the format.  "Cough Syrup" drew even greater success, peaking at #2 at Alternative, and enjoying crossover chart success at both Hot AC and Triple A radio.  Both tracks remain in regular rotation as staples at radio outlets nationwide.

As a dynamic and distinctive live act, the band also made a range of high profile TV performances, spanning ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and NBC's TODAY and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to 2011's MTV Video Music Awards and their own edition of MTV's Unplugged.

We've got 'More Than a Feeling' about this one!

Boston will be 'Smokin' during Riverbend 2014

Chattanooga, TN - The arena rock band behind one of the fastest-selling debut albums in history is coming to Riverbend 2014!  Boston will hit the Coke Stage Wednesday, June 11 at 9:30 pm.

In December, the heavy hitting rockers released their latest album, "Life, Love, & Hope," which spent a decade in the making.
But, it was Boston's self-titled debut album that spawned three hit singles "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time," and "Peace of Mind", and shot immediately to the top of the charts.   It remained the best-selling pop debut effort in history before it was surpassed by Whitney Houston's first album in 1986.
Jeff Austin of Yonder Mountain String Band and The Here & Now
Friday, June 6  |  Bud Light Stage |  7:15 pm
Don't let his bluegrass roots fool you....this is a rock show! Austin is heading in a new creative direction as a solo artist and folks are loving it!
He's unstoppable on the mandolin and his songwriting remains rooted in Americana inspiration and the frantic energy of the jam genre.    But, he's weaving in some mainstream themes similar to the song 'Fiddlin' Around'  that he co-wrote.  It was featured on the 2010 Grammy nominated Dierks Bentley album, Up on the Ridge.

"My time with Yonder has taught me what is possible," Austin says.  "It has shown me that if you work hard at it and you believe in it and there's a part of you that's meant to do it, it will happen. It's clichéd, but it's true."

The John K Band featuring John Kadlecik of Furthur & Dark Star Orchestra   Friday, June 13  |  Unum Stage  |  8:30 pm
What a wild ride it's been!  John Kadlecik has jumped from member of a Grateful Dead tribute band to to playing lead guitar for original Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir.

In 1997, John Kadlecik co-founded the group Dark Star Orchestra, a band exclusively devoted to playing the well-documented actual set lists of the Grateful Dead.  In 2009, John departed from Dark Star Orchestra to join Furthur, with original Grateful Dead members Lesh and Weir.

Now, The John K Band features one of the most loved guitarists on the scene, with a mix of his musical friends playing both original music and fan favorites in a format that is a sheer pleasure for audiences!

Grammy Award Winning Buddy Guy is 'Slippin in' on Riverbend 2014!

 Buddy Guy

Chattanooga, TN - Buddy Guy may not have invented the blues, but some have tried to give him credit for such.  As a pioneer of the Chicago blues sound, Guy has influenced some of the most notable musicians of his generation, including Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Vaughan once told Guitarist magazine, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."

In the 60's Guy was a member of Muddy Waters' band and a house guitarist for Chess Records.  He's ranked 30th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time", Guy is known for his showmanship on stage: playing his guitar with drumsticks or strolling into the audience while playing solos. His song "Stone Crazy" was ranked 78th in Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time.

Guy will hit the Coke State Sunday, June 8 at 9:30pm.

Bernie Worrell Orchestra  |  Saturday, June 7  |  Bud Light Stage

Bernie Worrell first came to prominence as a founding member and Musical Director of Parliament/Funkadelic. While the influential super group was radically altering the course of music, Bernie was radically charting the course of emerging keyboard technology during the golden age of analog synthesis. Among the key ingredients in his sonic stew were perfect pitch and a well-honed facility with the classical canon.

A child prodigy who began studying piano at the tender age of three and gave his first public performance just a year later, Worrell wrote his first concerto at age eight and performed with the Washington Symphony Orchestra at ten.  The hits were many: "Flashlight," "Atomic Dog," "Aqua Boogie," "Cosmic Slop" and "Red Hot Mama" are only a few of the Parliament/Funkadelic classics which Worrell co-wrote, played and co-produced on literally dozens of albums -- not to mention his years of wild P-Funk performances, which quickly became the stuff of lore.

Bernie Worrell Orchestra plays Saturday, June 7 at 7:15pm on the Bud Light Stage.

It doesn't get much better than this....

TobyMac headlines Faith & Family Night for Riverbend 2014!

Chattanooga, TN - Just when everyone is saying, "It'll be tough to top last year's Faith and Family lineup," Friends of the Festival books Contemporary Christian music star, TobyMac for Riverbend Festival 2014!

TobyMac will be headlining Faith and Family Night, Tuesday June 10, at 9:00pm.

With 11 million career albums sold and 6 GRAMMY® Awards to his credit, TobyMac refuses to settle on past accomplishments, as he delivers a diverse album built on honest struggle.  He remains passionate about his desire to write songs at the intersection where life and spirituality collide. His new album is 'Eye On It.'

From his early days in influential group dcTalk to his very first solo album, Momentum, Toby has worked hard to inspire his audience with words of conviction, hope, empowerment and the redemption found in his faith in God.

"What is it like to live a life of faith? It doesn't look perfect, I can promise you that," Toby admits. "We're all struggling. We're struggling to mend relationships, to love people well, and to love God. But the gift of walking this life of faith is that you can make it right each day. You can turn and start over, determined, with your eye on it."

The follow-up to 2010's Tonight (which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200), Eye On It, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, is an elevating collection of 12 tracks, all of them written or co-written by Toby.

Star Seats for TobyMac are only $10 each and are available online at

Robert Randolph & The Family Band  |  Sunday, June 8  |  Bud Light Stage

They're known for a very distinctive mix of rock, funk and rhythm and blues, and now Robert Randolph & The Family Band is back with the first album in three years.  When Robert Randolph talks about his new album, Lickety Split, a few words come up over and over-"joy," "freedom," "energy." Which is no surprise, really, because those are the same things that immediately spring into a listener's mind when these twelve tracks from the virtuoso pedal steel guitarist and his longtime accompanists, the Family Band, explode out of the speakers.

"My thing is really upbeat, up tempo, with great guitar riffs," says Randolph, summarizing his musical ambitions, "but also catchy choruses and lyrics that someday will make this music into classic tunes."

"Robert Randolph is an American Original," says Don Was, President of Randolph's new label, Blue Note Records. "This album finally captures the energy and excitement of his legendary live performances."

Randolph's unprecedented prowess on his instrument garnered him a spot on Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list, and also attracted the attention of such giants as Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana, who have collaborated with him on stage and in the studio.

Justin Moore

Chattanooga, TN - Country music star Justin Moore will roll onto the Coke Stage Thursday, June 12th at 9:30 pm.

Moore is known for delivering country music with an edge and has that way of negotiating the good ole boy reality that's been known to define today's hardcore country fan. A little bit rowdy, a little bit sentimental, a whole lot of roughneck, Moore is denting the country radio charts.

Moore's three  #1 hits are "Small Town USA," the sentimental family embracing "If Heaven Weren't SoFar Away" and  "Til My Last Day."

Allen Stone | Wednesday, June 11  |  Bud Light Stage |  8:15pm
USA Today has called Allen Stone a "pitch-perfect powerhouse" and The New York Times has likened his socially conscious music to that of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Bill Withers. But the 25-year-old singer-songwriter just sees himself as "a hippie with soul."

Since the digital release of his self-titled album via his own label in October 2011, Stone's shows have been selling out from coast to coast. His first national television appearance - on "Conan" - came after the music booker saw a YouTube video of Allen performing "Unaware" in his mother's living room.

CNN and Billboard named Stone as an artist to watch.

Riverbend admission transitions from pins to wristbands.
Riverbend Festival admission is changing from a lapel pin to a wristband for a simpler festival entry process.  The wristbands will offer a smoother entrance into the festival because they're easier to spot and scan.  Workers will scan the wristbands for entry as well as upon exiting.  Attendees can still leave and return to the festival as they wish, they will just need to be scanned as they leave.
The wristbands are removable and can be used for the entire festival.  With the larger size, the wristbands will be easier than a lapel pin for attendees to keep up with for the duration of the festival.
Riverbend will still offer metal pins for collectors.  However, a wristband will be the only admission to the festival.  Collector's pins will be available at the merchandise tent during the Festival.
You can get wristbands at the early bird discount price ONE DAY ONLY, Saturday December 14,  at Hamilton Place Mall 11am - 2pm at the food court entrance.  Wristbands will be $28 each, a savings of 40% from gate prices.

Jake Owen Opens Riverbend

December 6, 2012 11:41 am
Jake Owen opens Riverbend 2013 on June 7th! And .....don't call them crazy, but Riverbend fans are sleeping in the cold to guarantee the riverside seats!
Chattanooga, TN - Get ready for a 'Barefoot Blue Jean Night'  to kick off Riverbend Festival 2013! Riverbend has roped in Jake Owen, an overnight sensation on the country music scene, with the help of our partners at US 101.
Owen will kick off the Riverbend celebration on June 7, 2013 at 9:30 on the Coke Stage.  'Barefoot Blue Jean Night' is the title of Owen's latest CD and his biggest hit to date.
His revival of "Life in a Northern Town" with Sugarland and Little Big Town in 2008 earned him Grammy and CMA Award nominations. Owen was named 2009's Top New Male Vocalist by the Academy of Country Music.
Some Riverbend fans are making the sacrifice 6 months early to guarantee a ring side seat when Owen takes the stage!
Ross's Landing -If you've ever wondered how those boat owners get the super sweet parking spot right next to the Coke Stage during Riverbend, here's your answer.
It started as a tradition that had the feel of camping in line for the best concert tickets or latest electronics on Black Friday.  But it has morphed into a tail gating party of sorts.
Boaters and Riverbend fans have been camped out since Monday to guarantee themselves a spot to dock at Ross's Landing during Riverbend 2013. They're hoping to score a slot on the "sign up" sheet to gain access to the dock during the festival.
Marty Puryear of Marine Max, the group who manages the docks along Chattanooga's riverfront, says, "They love it, they bring tarps, they cover the breezeway, they pack a cooler, and we have a fire pit for them."
Space is limited, and so is the time available.  Boaters can only park festival-side for half the week, either Friday - Tuesday or Tuesday- Friday.  First come, first serve.  Marine Max will open the doors at 8 AM Friday, exactly six months to the day that Riverbend 2013 kicks off.
More to get excited about.....Ed Roland of Collective Soul
The Atlanta native has been the front man and  heart of the platinum-selling rock band Collective Soul for two decades.   He's teamed up with a group of friends to compile the Sweet Tea Project.  Roland has written seven #1 radio hits and has sold more than 10 million records worldwide, but the Sweet Tea Project is a new approach to his classic hit-making style. Ed Roland and the Sweet Tea Project will hit the Budweiser Stage Thursday, June 13, 2013.
Get ready for Big Smo, an artist, with his own unique sound, that may be best described as country rap.  In 2002 Big Smo self released his first album, "Kuntry Kitchen" The album received rave reviews and Big Smo was on his way to becoming a local independent force. A few years later he released his sophomore album, "The True South", a crossover album that blends his street experience with his backwoods southern roots.  Big Smo plays Friday, June 14th on the Budweiser Stage.

Brandy Headlines Coke Stage

November 29, 2012 4:36 pm
3 Stage Announcements........
Brandy is back! And Riverbend has her locked in for Sunday on the Coke Stage.
Chattanooga, TN - After four years away from the music game, multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning R&B/pop singer, songwriter, and actress  has come roaring back with the fearless and inspired 'Two Eleven' a thoroughly modern R&B album that Rolling Stone has called "Brandy at her most realized: romantically shaky, vocally sharp, and musically sound." Billboard has hailed it as a "strong return to Brandy's multi-layered impassioned vocals." With its unforgettable melodies, glorious harmonies, edgy beats, and Brandy's sultry voice front-and-center, 'Two Eleven' sounds like an artist reborn. "It's an honest album," she says. "It's relatable. It's sexy and vulnerable. I really let my true self come through on every song. It has so many different colors, but at the same time, it represents the artist I am now."
Brandy was most recently on 'Dancing with the Stars' in 2010.  She was also the star of the hit TV series 'Moesha' from 1996-2001.  Brandy will perform Sunday June 9, 2013 on the Coke Stage at Riverbend.
The Bud Light stage will be on "cruise" control on Friday, June 7, 2013.
With the help of our partners at US 101 Friends of the Festival has snagged the rising country duoGeorgia Florida Line, made up of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley.   The pair is getting plenty of play with their new single, "Cruise," that creates a picture of falling in love on a back road in Georgia.
The high energy stage performers have in a short time, worked their way into opening slots for artists like Blake Shelton, Jake Owen, and Colt Ford.  More recently they scored a gig on the 2012 Country Throwdown Tour with Gary Allan, Rodney Atkins, and Justin Moore.
Get ready for Civil Twilight, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 on the Unum Stage.  The Nashville based band, originally from South Africa,  has been turning heads world-wide and opening for acts like Smashing Pumpkins and Florence & The Machine. This fall will begin a nationwide tour with Mutemath.  They say their music is for a world that's not quite dark and not quite light, but like the moment when the sun sets when we stop to take a breath.
