Wycliffe Gordon pays tribute to the greatest jazz musician of all time, Louis Armstrong, while transporting listeners to Crescent City along Bourbon Street. Keeping true to tradition, the program will feature the trumpet, trombone, and clarinet backed by a rhythm section for such Armstrong gems as “When the Saint Go Marchin’ In,” “St. Louis Blues,” and “Li'l Liza Jane,” along with originals by Wycliffe like “Hello Pops,” “I Give You Love,” and “Toast My Bread.”
Renowned jazz artist Wycliffe Gordon tours the world to great acclaim while solidifying a place in musical history as one of the best trombonists of his generation. He was awarded “Best Trombone” by Downbeat Magazine’s Critics’ Poll in 2016 (and 2014, 2013, 2012), and Jazz Journalists Association has named him – nine times! - “Trombonist of the Year.” He is a former veteran member of the Wynton Marsalis Septet and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, and now tours regularly with his own band, “Wycliffe Gordon and His International All-Stars.” Wycliffe is a Yamaha Performing Artist and plays the Wycliffe Gordon Signature mouthpiece by Pickett Brass.
“Wycliffe Gordon held court, not only blowing one of the finest trombones ever, but also a deeply swinging, soulful trumpet combined with some mighty spicy singing!”
