“This is a place of beauty and inspiration, it is a natural fit for an international opera production”.
–VANCE NEUDORF, Executive Director of the Badlands Amp
On August 4th, Opera makes its debut at the Badlands Amphitheatre. Three great names in Entertainment have joined together to present an historic performance of George Bizet's Carmen in the Badlands.
Opera Classica Europa is the largest independent opera company in Europe and widely known for turning castles into open air theatres. Opera luminaries on their 2018 roster include John Osborn (Met, La Scala), and Marc Heller (Met, Bolshoi). Carmen begins with an 8 city and 4 country tour across Europe before its North American debut, and its cast will be comprised of established and rising stars of the operatic stage.
Mercury Opera takes opera to subway platforms, tents, boats and downtown back alleys, making opera accessible to the masses. AnEVibe says “You did not need to know a thing about opera to be utterly absorbed in Mercury Opera’s presentation… stuffy and elitist, not applicable… clever and ingenious.”
The Badlands Amphitheatre, with its natural acoustics and grand set buildings nestled in the Badlands bowl of sedimentary rock and arid landscape, lends itself perfectly to multiple operatic plots - especially Carmen.
