The CMSD’s innovative inDepth concert format turns its attention to the music of Bartok, in Wayne State University’s intimate Schaver Music Recital Hall, a venue uniquely well-suited to the musical deep-dive adventures this format provides.

In this special concert, the popular Mack Sisters duo piano team makes its CMSD series debut, anchoring a team of esteemed colleagues for a performance of the Hungarian master’s piano sonatas: the brief Solo Piano Sonata performed by Kazimierz Brozozowski, and the rarely heard Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion with WSU faculty member Keith Claeys and MOT Orchestra percussionist John Dorsey.

Longtime residents of Southeast Michigan, Yuki and Tomoko Mack have established an international career as one of the leading duo piano teams in the world.  Together, they’ve won top prizes in several international competitions, including the Dranoff International Two-Piano Competition in Florida, the Ellis Two-Piano National Competition in South Carolina, and the International Piano Duo Competition in Tokyo.  Along with Kazimierz Brozozowski, they are regular returning artist faculty of the International Summer Music Festival in Naleczow, Poland.

Both of these Bartok masterpieces will be introduced in detail and then performed in their entirety.  Afterward, the audience will be invited to engage the artists in a post-concert conversation, completing their encounter with the extraordinary night of music making.
