Boo! Images of the Macabre

Boo! Images of the Macabre

October 13 - December 15, 2017

Why are we so attracted to images of the macabre? Psychologist Carl Jung wrote that the artist’s role is to give expression to the shadow side of humankind, which usually dwells below the level of consciousness. He advocated forcing shadows into the light in order to master dark impulses and to maintain a healthy balance. Boo! Images of the Macabre engaged visitors’ subconscious through art that explored eerie landscapes, creepy creatures, ghostly figures , and other mysterious intersections of reality and imagination.

An opening reception was held October 13, 2017. A gallery talk was provided by Ann Prentice Wagner, PhD, Curator of Drawings at the Arkansas Arts Center. Music was provided by Dr. Barry McVinney (saxophone) and Ron Hall (piano).
