Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints

Wandering Spirit: African Wax Prints

July 12 - October 5, 2019

The exhibition was a tribute to the century-old handmade designs and patterns on textiles that originated in Indonesia and were copied and industrialized by Europeans and exported to Africa. It traced the developmental pathway of the African wax print and told how these fabrics reflected the stories, dreams, and personalities of the people who wore them.

The exhibition was curated by Dr. Gifty Benson and organized by ExhibitsUSA/Mid-America Arts Alliance, Kansas City, Missouri.

An opening reception was held July 12, 2019. A gallery talk was provided by Designer/Stylist Korto Momolu-Briggs. Music was by Zinse Agginie's Percussion Quartet.
