2019 FIN VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT TEAM
VOLUNTEER & EXTERNAL RELATIONS MANAGER
FIN: Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to FIN?
Nadine: I grew up in Nova Scotia, lived in Ontario for 14 years, now I live in Halifax with my husband, Tim, and two kids. I’ve held a range of roles over the years, in non-profit and government sectors. I like bringing people together to accomplish things, whether it’s library programming, an adult education course, or an annual report. Joining the team at the film festival means I can help bring people together in a creative and vibrant environment. It’s a field I’ve recently started dabbling in too, by writing scripts and participating in creative development programs, including FIN’s own Script Development Program.
F: Why is volunteering important?
N: Volunteering is a great way to connect with the community. You’re giving to the community, of course, but you’re also meeting people and, with FIN, getting a peek into the film business.
F: What are you most excited about in your new position with FIN?
N: I’m looking forward to working with people who are passionate about film, community--and the film community!
F: What is your favourite movie, and why?
N: Hmm, tough one. I love film noir: DOUBLE INDEMNITY and CHINATOWN, for example. I also like the Coen Brothers, who have neo noir elements in some of their films.
F: What is your favourite movie snack?
N: If it’s not popcorn, it’s not a movie snack!
Nadine: Tell us a little about yourself
Tasia: I grew up in London, Ontario with my mother. I’m a big basketball fan. I started playing when I was 9 years old and still play today, but for fun with my son. I love everything beauty: hair, make-up, nails and fashion—but what woman doesn’t in some way?
I graduated from Success College in 2015 with a Business Admin diploma. Opening a beauty business has always been a dream of mine, and maybe someday it will be a reality. For now, I’ll do hair out of my kitchen.
N: Why is volunteering important?
T: Volunteering is important because it’s a great way to bring communities and people together. It’s an awesome way to make new relationships by putting yourself out there. Something like networking, you never know who you may meet.
N: What are you most excited about in your new position with FIN?
T: What I am most excited about in my new position here at FIN would have to be meeting wonderful new people, volunteers and staff, and learning new skills, whether it’s new computer systems or life skills.
N: What is your favourite movie, and why?
T: That’s a hard one! My favourite movie or movies would have to be the SAW collection. I love that it brings you, the viewer, in with intensity and I always find myself playing the game like I’m in the movie too!
N: What is your favourite movie snack?
T: My favorite movie snack hmmm, I would have to say popcorn of course, but with dill pickle seasoning. I will need something sweet to go with my popcorn and that would be Swedish Berries and peanut M&Ms.
As a charitable cultural organization, FIN simply couldn't offer such a broad range of year round initiatives without the skills and commitment of our great Volunteers. Whether you're interested in meeting great people, learning about the film business, giving back to your community, or watching a fantastic collection of films, you've come to the right place!
