Dillon Nature Center Concert June 7


Each summer, in June, the Hutchinson Symphony is featured as a performing ensemble at the popular outdoor concert series hosted at the Dillon Nature Center.

Imagine an evening at Dillon Nature Center, a light breeze and birds singing.  Imagine being swept away by Copland’s Hoe Down from Rodeo, Offenbach’s Light Cavalry Overture or Anderson’s Trumpeter’s Lullaby.  Imagine adventuring with the Pirates of the Caribbean, Raiders of the Lost Ark, with Samson and Delilah or as An American in Paris.  Imagine all of this and more but make it your reality for an evening spent with the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra in the beautiful and beloved setting of Dillon Nature Center.   This annual kick off to summer is just for you, your family and friends on June 7, 2019 at 7 o’clock at Dillon Nature Center.  Bring a chair or a blanket.  Admission is FREE!

Guest Soloists 

Dr. Kirsten Paulsrud is an active participant in the community whether working, volunteering or performing.  Dr. Paulsrud practices Podiatric Medicine at the Hutchinson Clinic.  Her family, including husband Brad and three children,  attend Holy Cross Catholic Church where Kirsten cantors.  Kirsten performed with the 2015 Follies Production and more recently, sang the national anthem at the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting.  Kirsten serves on the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber Board of Directors.  An Iowa native, the Paulsrud family has lived in Hutchinson for 7 years. 


Alex Spence (Tenor) is A Hutchinson native and resident who graduated in the class of 2009 from Hutchinson High School. Alex holds two degrees from Kansas State University in Music Education and Voice Performance where he was seen on stage as Chip Tolentino in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro, Giles Corey in The Crucible (Opera), and Jacey Squires in The Music Man. Professionally Alex is known for his classical repertoire where he has been the tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Bastien in Bastien und Bastienne and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte both of which were performed in Salzburg, Austria during the Salzburger Festspiele. Recently you may have seen Alex performing the role at Monty Navarro in Stage 9’s production “A Gentlemans Guide to Love and Murder.
