Saturday, August 24
10 AM–4 PM
The Athenaeum is excited to announce that on Saturday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., we will hold our second annual sale of compact discs! In the last year we have been the beneficiaries of many gifts of discs in good or like-new condition and after we selected those we wanted to keep for the library, thousands remain, waiting for good homes. Included in the collection are multiple performances of all the classical standards, from symphonies to operas, chamber music to vocal music. There will also be a good selection of jazz and popular music to round it out. These musical treasures can be yours for the low price of $1 per disc. Find a great bargain for yourself or a friend! We hope to see you there!
We are also looking for donations to improve on the usual mix of books, CDs, and LPs we already have. Gently used books, fiction or nonfiction on any subject, are particularly welcome. All we ask is that you call us first to confirm the acceptability of the gift and to arrange a time to drop it off.
We look forward to your assistance in making this a successful sale, and don’t forget—even if you don’t have anything to contribute for the sale, you can always help us out by attending it!
The Athenaeum accepts donations of gently used—or new—books of most genres, as well as CDs, DVDs, and jazz LPs, to be sold at our quarterly book sales. (A smaller selection is available during library hours year-round.) We do not accept donations of periodicals, text books, VHS, or non-jazz LPs. Any soiled or damaged books will not be accepted. We are also searching for more volunteers to help sort and price books and work the sales. Donations are taken on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (or on other days by special arrangement). We appreciate donations of ten or more books to be delivered in bags or boxes. Please contact librarian Kathi Bower Peterson at (858) 454-5872 or firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements for a donation.
