$200/220 + $10 mat. fee for gesso, collage papers and Tombow pens
Materials: Arches or Fabriano hot-pressed 140 lb. watercolor paper (at least 2 full sheets), cut or torn into half-sheets; one or more round watercolor brushes, #14, #12, or #10; 1” acrylic flat brush; acrylic matte medium; water container; #2B soft pencil and soft eraser; waterproof dark-valued drawing pen; cheap ink pen with metal tip; one tube white gouache; hair dryer with diffuser attachment (to spread the air evenly). Watercolors: pan or personal palette (work with professional grade tube watercolors if possible). List of recommended but not mandatory pigments (these are just suggestions; do the best you can with your personal palette—I primarily work with Daniel Smith and Holbein): Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light, Permanent Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Red, Quinacridone Rose or Permanent Rose, Quinacridone Gold, Cadmium Orange, Quinacridone Burnt Sienna or Burnt Sienna, Sap Green, Phthalo Green, Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine, Cobalt Turquoise Light (Holbein), Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Carbazole Violet (Daniel Smith). Helen will bring close-up images of plants for reference and ephemera and tools to use while we work.
