21. Stop-Motion Spectacular! (Morning) (Ages 9–12)
9 AM–12 PM—CANCELLED
$175 for members/$195 for nonmembers + $25 materials fee
Instructor: Steven Topham
La Jolla Studio
With animation, some crafting tools, and our creativity, we can go to space, dive to the depths of the ocean, and conjure up fantastic worlds. Stop-motion is an animation technique in which the objects within the frame are moved a tiny bit in each frame to create an illusion of movement. It’s ideal for all students, since it doesn’t require drawing skills or previous filmmaking knowledge. Anything can be moved and animated within the frame, from tiny pieces of paper to the students themselves. In Stop-motion Spectacular, students will learn the fundamentals, play games, and bring their creativities to life.
Please note, students may register for the morning only, the afternoon only, or both. Students who register for both will be supervised during the break between classes; please send them with a lunch.
MATERIALS: If able, please send your students with a tablet. We will be using the free app “Stop Motion Studio,” so download that to the tablet prior to the class. We will provide a limited number of tablets. (Please register early if you need to borrow a tablet.) Students are welcome to bring their own toys or dolls from home to animate with. The $25 materials fee will go toward the purchase of paper, glue, tapes, decor, clay for set building, and a USB drive for each student.
