Herbert Washington



Herbert Washington is the Artistic Director of the Phoenix Boys Choir.  He recently served as the Director of Choral Activities at Gilbert Christian Schools and Encore Director for Chandler Children's Choir.  An Arizona native, he is a frequent choral clinician, conductor, and adjudicator for many regional festivals and workshops around the country, as well as an avid composer. Herbert is a graduate from St. Olaf College in Minnesota with a dual B.A. in Music and Fine Arts and M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona where he founded Cat-Call A Cappella. While receiving his B.A. he was a tenor and soloist in the St. Olaf Choir, conducted by Dr. Anton Armstrong and directed “Voices of Praise,” the St. Olaf Gospel Choir.  Previous positions include directing for the Phoenix Boys Choir and the Phoenix Children's Chorus. Washington is an active member of Arizona Music Educators Association (AMEA), former ACDA Western Division Chair board member, and currently serves as the Children’s Choirs & Community Youth Chair for the Arizona American Choral Directors Association (AzACDA).
