Our Acting classes offer participants the opportunity to study with “teaching artists” who are working professionals with a high level degree or experience in the performing arts. This November, RTC company member and Yale trained artist Joseph Fuqua will offer a series of three workshops at Rubicon Theatre Company. These in-depth classes are for the adventurous at hear.t If you’re looking to expand your acting skill set these are the classes for you! Each class will be 5 hours long, providing ample time for discussion and exploration in a safe and encouraging working environment. The fee for each workshop is $125.00. Enroll in two or more and receive a 20% discount on your tuition. 

 

Trained at Yale University, Joseph Fuqua's professional experience spans three decades in the theatre. He’s the Director of Rubicon’s Fearless Shakespeare Summer Program for students ages 15 to 25 years old.

Location

Classes are held at Rubicon Theatre Company, which is located at 1006 East Main Street and South Laurel Street in Ventura’s Downtown Cultural Arts District. Street Parking is available. Please use the Laurel Street entrance for classes.


Acting Class Descriptions

 

...At the Audition
Actors will be assessed and then guided at their individual level of expertise. Artists are encouraged to come prepared with a memorized monologue. Cold readings and all aspects of the audition process will be explored.

 

...As Detective
In this class actors will work scenes with partners. The focus will be learning about the approach to your script and developing the tools to fully realize a character.


...And his Props
A unique workshop for the experienced actor who is looking to develop a realtionship with hand props and their many uses in character development and as tools to set the artist apart.

 

 

 

Policies and Procedures

 

Making a Reservation:
Tuition must be paid in full to secure your place in the program.

 

Auditing a Class: 
Auditing a class allows one to experience the class as an observer and is available to first-time students for $20 fee. Should you decide to enroll in the class that fee may be applied to the tuition. Those interested must contact the Education Department at 805.667.2912 Ext. 234 prior to attending the class.

 

Financial Assistance:
There are a limited number of full and partial scholarships available for students and families in need. Applications must be submitted 2 weeks prior to the start of class. Apply for Financial Assistance.

 

Cancellation of a Class by Rubicon:
If for any reason a class should be cancelled by Rubicon, you will receive a full refund for the class or have the choice to apply that tuition to another class or education program. Classes are subject to minimum enrollment.

 

Instructors:
Class instructors are working entertainment professionals who may on rare occasions accept outside employment which may prevent them from teaching the class as planned. Should an instructor not be able to teach their assigned class, a fully qualified substitute may be assigned without prior notice to students.
