ATTENDING A PRODUCTION

The health and safety of our patrons, artists, and staff are paramount at The Public Theater of San Antonio. Here’s what you should know about how we are maintaining and improving our facility and adjusting our protocols.

The Public Theater of SA will be keeping audiences limited to 30% of the total capacity of the Theater (105 guests) with socially distancing protocols in place for audience traffic and seating. The following procedures and logistics are based on recommendations from the CDC, the WHO, Johns Hopkins Center for Health and Security, and local legislation.

Prevent the Spread of Respiratory Viruses:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Stay at home if you are sick
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

Before you go:

  • Take the self-survey!
  • Do you have a fever, or have you felt feverish recently?
  • Do you have a cough or shortness of breath?
  • Do you have chills, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, or flu-like symptoms?
  • Have you experienced a recent loss of smell or taste?
  • Have you experienced gastrointestinal upset?
  • Are you or have you been in contact with any COVID-19 positive individuals?
  • Have you traveled in the last 14 days to areas affected by COVID-19?
  • Have you tested positive for COVID-19?
  • If the answer to any of these questions is YES, please reconsider your visit and contact our Box Office to reschedule.
  • If the answer to all of these questions was, NO, purchase your print at home or mobile ticket. Will-call tickets will not be available, and no paper tickets will be printed on-site. Download the Walletini for mobile tickets. Tickets must be purchased in advance.  We will not allow groups of 10 or larger to be purchased.
  • Remember to bring your mask with you!

Upon your arrival:

  • All patrons will have their temperature checked prior to entering the facility.
  • Masks must be worn by all patrons. (As a reminder, our standard ticket policy allows only for patrons ages 4 and up. No infants or toddlers will be permitted on site.) Patrons arriving without a mask will be offered the opportunity to purchase a disposable one from the theater.
  • All patrons will be asked to answer a survey similar to the self-survey above.
  • Patrons presenting a fever, refusing to wear a mask, or who answer YES to any questions in the survey will be asked to reschedule their visit and given an opportunity for a free exchange.

You’ve entered the facility:

  • All guests will be required to use hand sanitizer upon entry that will be provided at the door.
  • Patrons will be asked to observe social distancing standards within the facility.
  • Restroom capacity will be reduced to accommodate a safe number of individuals and will be staffed to both monitor access and provide sanitization between patrons.
  • All-access to the facility will be designated as either an entrance or an exit to assist with social distancing.
  • Patrons will be asked to visit the bar and/or restroom if needed upon arrival and proceed directly to their seats. Visiting in the lobby should be kept to a minimum.
  • The Public Bar and Concessions will be available for card and contactless payments ONLY. No cash will be accepted.
  • Patrons who have purchased items from the bar are permitted to remove their masks once seated. Masks must be worn at all times unless consuming food or beverages.
  • Patrons will be promptly escorted to their designated seats. Seating will be staggered-seating and a two-seat spacing distance is required for all non-family unit patrons.
  • Patrons are encouraged to remain in their seats for the entirety of the performance as reentry will not be permitted during the performance.
  • Digital playbills will be available by QR code or link and will be rotating on a lobby video monitor. No paper playbills will be distributed.

Exiting:

  • Patrons will be asked to remain seated following the performance and will be guided in their exit from the theater to ensure social distancing.
  • For the health and safety of our staff and volunteers, patrons are asked to personally dispose of their trash in an appropriate receptacle upon exit.

Additional Measures:

  • Protocols for the arrival of staff and artists mirror those for patrons, including a self-survey prior to arrival, temperature check and survey upon arrival, required mask (and gloves when appropriate and feasible), and social distancing expectations.
  • Shields have been installed at Box Offices and Bar/Concessions areas.
  • The Public Theater has implemented UV-C technology to assist with air purification as well as surface sanitization in all areas of the building.
  • No-touch equipment has been installed including flush valves, faucets, and hand soap dispensers in restrooms as well as hand sanitizer stations throughout the building.
  • Unnecessary entry to our building has been restricted - only essential personnel are permitted on-site in between performances.
  • We have removed all unnecessary furniture and seating areas to assist with social distancing.
  • We have implemented sales practices that ensure social distancing standards per the state guidelines are upheld between patron parties.
  • Extensive cleaning and sanitization policies have been implemented, including employee training on disinfection and hygiene practices.

SEATING PROCEDURES

For the safety of our patrons, The Public Theater of San Antonio will be implementing social distancing within our Russell Hill Rogers Auditorium and lobby. In order to best serve our community through this process, we will be applying the following guidelines to protect our patrons while also providing quality entertainment in a comfortable atmosphere.

  • Reservations (non-seat specific) must be made in advance via online or by phone for a production’s specific date.
  • Upon arrival at the theater, patrons will be asked to check in with the Patron Liaison and will be given a number based on arrival time. Seating is determined by party size and arrival time.
  • Throughout the lobby, social distancing indicators for bar and bathroom lines will be clearly marked on the floor, along with attendants who will be available to assist with these measures.
  • Once the auditorium is open and ready for patrons, a Patron Liaison will be calling group numbers to start seating. Seating will begin at the front of the house and a liaison or usher will assist your party by seating you at the required distance from other parties. Every other row will be skipped to ensure a proper distance and a minimum of two seats will be between parties in the same row.
  • *Reminder: seat specific reserved seating will not be available at this time (except for ADA compliant seating).
  • Upon the end of the production, please stay seated. A liaison, usher, or production crew member will be assisting with vacating the theater from the back rows first, row by row, to ensure safe distancing.
  • Prior to the conclusion of the production, the lobby and bathrooms will be closed due to cleaning and safety precautions.  These facilities will not be available during your exit.  Patrons will be asked to depart the facility immediately.

If there are any questions about the policies and procedures, please feel free to reach us at (210) 733-7258 or by email at boxoffice@thepublicsa.org.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the theater!
