Director of Education: The Public Theater of San Antonio is growing! The Public Theater of SA seeks a Director of Education to oversee all aspects of its educational programming. Core responsibilities include: overall development, organization, operation, and coordination of all education programming; supervising and hiring teaching artists and interns; developing curriculum; submitting an annual budget; overseeing educational productions; providing study guides for productions as needed; coordinating production talk-backs; supervising and teaching classes. Additionally, the Director of Education will work with the CEO and COO to create long-term strategic planning. Reports to COO.


REQUIREMENTS: The Public Theater will seek to hire and retain a qualified Education Director with the applicable education, skills, and experience to implement the youth education programs. Qualifications include a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Theater Arts, Education, or related field. The selected candidate will also have a minimum of five years of experience working in the theater arts, developing and implementing educational curriculum and programs, and teaching experience preferred as well as a working understanding of education, marketing, and budgeting. Candidates must have excellent written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.


Now in its 107th Season, The Public Theater of SA is the only AEA professional theater in Bexar County and has an operating budget of $1.4 million (proposed $1.8 for 2019-2020). Company Manager:

The Company Manager (part-time position) is responsible for providing the essential support required to maintain an efficient theatrical producing company. This position works in conjunction with the Stage Managers, Technical Director, CFO, COO, Marketing/Engagement Director, and Artistic Director in scheduling and coordinating all production elements. The Company Manager has specific responsibilities in regards to guests, vehicles, transportation, housing, facilities, events, scripts, company mailings, recruiting, and new employees. 

The Company Manager works closely with the Artistic Director, Production Manager, department heads, production teams, and business office. This position is an important link for all departments and carries with it a substantial need for the understanding of, and adherence to, organizational hierarchy and appropriate communication pathways. High attention to detail and the ability to work independently is essential.

Example of duties: 

  • Arranges travel/housing for guest designers/artists hired for employment
  • Meets and greets guests; provides tour of facilities; assists with obtaining parking permits, keys, phone lists, “rules of the house”, paychecks, reimbursements, etc. 
  • Serves as liaison for equity rule discussions
  • Arranges artist activities/socials/entertainment
  • Maintains all artist housing and company vehicles
  • Provides information/assistance for guests (Non-AEA) in procuring local housing
  • Arranges travel/housing for company members when they travel for business
  • Responsible for all scripts, scores, and librettos 
  • Serves as Assistant to the Artistic Director
  • Assists with all casting and artist/technician contracts with communication to the CFO
  • Additional duties as assigned



  • Understanding of the various elements of the theater process – production, technical, and performance 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and usage of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation 
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills – detail oriented 
  • Ability to problem-solve and facilitate solutions to issues 
  • Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet deadlines 
  • Ability to work independently and exercise excellent decision making skills
  • High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and graphics programs
  • Valid driver’s license and available vehicle
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds alone or 50 pounds with assistance
