George Green, CEO/Artistic Director
George has served as the Director of Development for Spokane Civic Theatre as well as the Executive/Artistic Director of The Modern Theaters of The Inland Northwest. A former USAF Member, he gained his business acumen as a marketing and promotion expert in the radio and print industry. George has been involved in the theatrical arts as an amateur and professional dating back to 1977. Mr. Green is an award-winning set designer, director, and performer. Some notable accolades include Outstanding Scenic Designer and Outstanding Director from the 5th Avenue Theater Awards-Seattle as well as the AACT National Best Supporting Actor Award for his portrayal of Lee Harvey Oswald in Assassins. He is inspired by this community’s passion and emotional investment to make the best theater possible for our region.

Shelly Chance, COO/Managing Director
Shelly Chance was born and raised in San Antonio and has been actively involved in the theater most of her life. Her first paid gig was as the spotlight operator at age 11 at The Public. She received her BA in theater arts from the University of the Incarnate Word and has worked as an actor, director, producer, stage manager and costume designer. After college Shelly moved to Tokyo, Japan where she worked as an educator and was instrumental in incorporating theater, music and dance into the stringent Kokudai Seminar curricula. In 2013, Shelly joined Theatre for Change as COO where she cultivated her passion for pairing the arts with social justice issues and service projects. In December 2017 Shelly received The Community Project of the Year award from The Alamo Area Council of Governments for her volunteer efforts. She is the president of the China Grove Lions Club and is lucky enough to spend every minute of her spare time giving back to the community.

Laura Michelle Hoadley, CFO/Business Director
Laura Michelle was born in Arizona and raised near Barksdale Air Force Base in northwest Louisiana. An avid fan of both spreadsheets and a good jazz combo, her passion is comprised of equal parts logistics and arts. She studied music and theater at the University of Louisiana at Monroe before joining Strauss Theatre Center as Operations Manager and Guest Director for YoungTroupe. Her work throughout north Louisiana also includes performance, direction, and technical credits with the Rose Theatre in Bastrop, East Bank Theatre and the Bossier Arts Council in Bossier City, and Shreveport Little Theater in Shreveport. Laura Michelle moved to San Antonio in 2010 and joined The Playhouse team in 2011 as Box Office Manager, later reassigned to the position of Operations Manager and eventually Business Director. Her passion for the arts keeps her busy both on and off stage with local performance and direction credits including work with The Playhouse, SAISD, and Allegro Stage Company. She is also a regular participant in the Association of Corporate Council’s annual Ethics Follies.

Jeff Morden, Development Director
Jeff Morden has been a resident of San Antonio for 16 years, having been born and raised in Southern California. Jeff has a 30-year professional career in community-based and public service organizations including Orange County’s United Way, The San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind, City of San Antonio, The Salvation Army-San Antonio Area Command, Bexar County, and Family Endeavors. Jeff studied Communications at the University of San Diego and Saddleback College. Jeff’s broad, non-profit experience includes business development, program administration, fundraising, special events, community relations, contract monitoring and compliance. Also, Jeff has been an active board member, serving on the board of directors of Miss Fiesta San Antonio, San Antonio AIDS Foundation, West Avenue Apartments, and acted as a volunteer mentor for The Salvation Army’s Boys & Girls Club. When not giving back to his community, Jeff’s hobbies include attending concerts, riding bikes, or playing tennis and volleyball.

Courtnie Mercer, Director of Patron Engagement
Courtnie was born in San Antonio but raised in the West Texas town of Abilene. She relocated permanently to San Antonio in 2003 and attended The University of Texas at San Antonio where she received a B.S. in Kinesiology and a Minor in Health. Courtnie began dancing at a very young age and started teaching dance at the age of nine. Dance and performance has always been her passions. Courtnie has been a member of the San Antonio Spurs ‘Team Energy’ as well as the San Antonio Stars ‘Star Squad’. Courtnie has choreographed for high schools and dance conventions all over Texas and has danced in such events as the Florida Citrus Bowl, Super Bowl XXXVIII, and Fiesta San Antonio's Webb Party. Courtnie is affiliated with Northside and San Antonio Independent School districts as a choreographer and served as Director for Insight Boys Crew at Trilogy Dance Center. As a performer, Courtnie has been seen on several stages around the community. Favorite productions include Hairspray (Brenda), Urinetown, Memphis (Double Dutch Girl), In The Heights, Grease (Patty Simcox) and Gypsy (Agnes/Amanda). Courtnie serves as the Resident Choreographer for The Public Theater of San Antonio.

Dan Heggem, Technical Director
Dan "Doc" Heggem studied and practiced lighting design throughout Southern California before moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2001. Since then, Mr. Heggem has received two critics choice awards for his designs of Woman in Black and Of Mice and Men for Spokane Interplayers Ensemble. He has won Outstanding Lighting Design at the 5th Avenue Theatre Awards in Seattle for his work on Mary Poppins in 2015 and Evita in 2016. Mr. Heggem has also won Outstanding Lighting Design for The Last 5 Years at I-Act Festival in Boise, Idaho. Most recently serving as Technical Director for The Modern Theater, Mr. Heggem has enjoyed many collaborative products with an array of designers and artist from coast to coast. He looks forward to all the exciting new challenges the future may hold.

Jeremy Whittington, Resident Designer
Jeremy Whittington has been creating art since he was five years old. Over the years, he has been a comic illustrator, muralist, graphic designer, painter, tattoo artist, and most recently, a scenic designer. Graduating Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design, Jeremy uses his multiple talents to create props, backdrops and scenic designs that propel the stories appearing on our stages. He was the Resident Designer for The Modern Theater in Spokane, Washington and Lake City Playhouse in Couer d’Alene, Idaho and is now excited to call San Antonio, and The Playhouse, home. As a performer, Jeremy has been fortunate to play such varied roles as Barfeé in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Mr. Spritzer/ Mr. Pinky in Hairspray, Bamatabois in Les Miserables, Sam Byck in Assassins, and Uncle Sweepy in the world premier of the children’s musical Rumplestiltskin.

Jesse Worley, Technical Engineer
Jesse Worley was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. He studied audio engineering at Spokane Falls Community College and has been working with The Modern Theaters in Idaho and Washington for the past several years. His audio credits include Chicago, Man of La Mancha, Next to Normal, Mary Poppins, All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, and The Wild Party. Jesse also enjoys working on recording and producing music and audio dramas. He loves being able to collaborate with creative and talented people and is looking forward to doing the same here at The Playhouse.

Alex M Coy IV, Scenic Technician
Alex H. Coy IV was born and raised in San Antonio and has been an active member of the local arts community since 2004, where he is an award-winning playwright, singer, actor, and designer. Alex joined The Playhouse team in September 2016 as a scenic technician and light/sound board operator. Previously, he was the Technical Director for The Overtime Theater. He's worked with The Magik Children's Theatre as a board operator and performer, The AtticRep as a technician and board-op, and was a founding member of the Proxy Theatre Company. When not on stage or working behind the scenes, Alex does stand-up comedy, draws satirical cartoons, and engages in grassroots activism in the anti-war, environmentalist, and trade-union movements.

Tyler Martin Pursch, Scenic Technician
Tyler Martin Pursch is a native of the Pacific Northwest, born and raised in Spokane, Washington. He has had scenic experience from theaters in Washington, Idaho, Montana, and most recently finishing his role in the Fort Peck Summer Theater's 49th Season as a Scenic Designer and Technical Director. Having recently moved to the South from the wilderness of the North, he's delighted to branch out and explore what the backstage scene has to offer in Texas and beyond! His other non-profit work includes Properties Designer for A Christmas Carol at missoula Children's Theater, as well as former Director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Missoula, Montana. When not working behind the scenes, Tyler is a poet and short-story writer with published work in the Fredericksburg Literary Art Review, Meat for Tea Magazine, and The Petrichor Journals. He is also an ongoing student of the craft of fine woodworking, an art that never ceases to put in the wind in his sails.
