General Audition Information

Commitment to Diversity and Equity

WCT is committed to increasing representation of our whole community on our WCT stage, artistic teams, staff, and volunteer groups, and are dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and equitable workplace for all.

We acknowledge that while we have come a long way to become equitable and accessible to our community with disabilities, and have proudly provided opportunities of leadership for all gender identities, we have not yet had a proportionate cultural representation and equity in our theatre and we are working intentionally to improve.

Audition Logistics

Enter WCT through the back doors on Riverfront Street unless otherwise notified - if you park in the front of WCT, there are two public walkways that take you to the rear of the building. If you will arrive more than half an hour after the beginning of auditions, please contact the theatre 262-547-4911, so that the director can be informed. The exception to this is when there is a sign up for specific time slots and you have completed the sign up process. We cannot guarantee that you will be seen if you do not come on time to your audition slot, but we recommend you try, as Directors want to see as many committed artists as possible.

There are typically two audition dates and one date reserved for callbacks if needed.

NEW FOR COVID-19: All auditions in the 2020-2021 season will be held using a sign-up genius and time slots to reduce capacity. We ask ALL actors who are auditioning to wear a face covering while in the building and may remove face covering when in place for audition and at the direction of the Director or Stage Manager. Face covering should be worn in all public spaces.

WCT Casting Policy and Procedure

For all Mainstage shows and some cabarets, WCT will hold open auditions. Smaller, non-Mainstage productions and Music on Main productions may be cast without an open call. WCT has an open casting policy and encourages people of all backgrounds to audition for any role, especially leading and supporting characters. Our team of Directors are passionate, creative, and committed to walking into auditions with fresh perspectives.

The age ranges are the character age ranges, not the actor age ranges - so please consider the age range you can play and allow the Director to make choices.

Every person that auditions will be notified of the casting choices via email or phone by the director, stage manager, or WCT staff. The casting process may take up to two weeks, and we ask you to wait at least seven days before contacting the theatre for information: 262-547-4911.

After you have received casting results, WCT asks you to wait until you have permission from the Director, Stage Manager, or WCT staff to make any public announcement, to allow time to contact all auditionees.

WCT Rehearsal Policy and Procedure

WCT rehearsals are determined by the director of the production based on the director’s preferences and schedule, and cast and crew preferences and conflicts. A very basic guideline is a six to eight week rehearsal period, with three to six rehearsals per week any day of the week, and each rehearsal lasting two to four hours. Tech weekend is the weekend before opening and may be all day Saturday and/or all day Sunday. Tech and dress rehearsals may run later, but WCT asks directors to keep casts no later than 11 p.m.

Cast conflicts play a major part in both casting decisions and scheduling of the rehearsals, so we ask that you come to auditions knowing all of your conflicts for every day of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays, and complete the conflict section of the audition form as completely and as honestly as you can.
