WMI PLUS At Home

 

World Music Institute has launched an online version of our established WMI PLUS Experiences called WMI PLUS At Home. 

 

WMI PLUS At Home features artist conversations and demonstrations, and takes a deeper dive into the musical traditions and instruments from around the world from the comfort and safety of your home. These talks will be led by fellow musicians, scholars, radio hosts, DJs and ethnomusicologists.

WMI PLUS At Home Experiences are free of charge, yet you have to register to reserve your space. When registering online, please be sure to complete your reservation by selecting the PROCESS ORDER button on the REVIEW page. You will receive an email confirmation once your registration is complete. Only registered participants will receive email instructions on how to join the event via Zoom online. Notifications will be sent 24 hours prior to the event. 

 

 

This event features Grammy-nominated singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer Mehmet Ali Sanlikol (Dunya Ensemble / New England Conservatory) and Ronnie Malley (The Band's Visit / Intercultural Productions) who will discuss Turkish musical styles and traditional instruments.

 

 

About Mehmet Ali Sanlikol: Grammy Award-nominated composer and New England Conservatory faculty member Mehmet Ali Sanlıkol hails from Cyprus and Turkey and was DownBeat Magazine’s September 2016 Editor’s pick, and JAZZIZ’s Top 10 Critics’ Choice 2014. A jazz pianist, multi-instrumentalist, and singer, Sanlıkol has been praised by critics all over the world for his unique, pluralist, multicultural and energetic musical voice.

 

 

 

 

About Ronnie Malley: Ronnie Malley is a multi-instrumentalist musician, theatrical performer, producer, and educator. He is a cast member of the staged Broadway production, The Band’s Visit. He conducts Arabic language artist residencies for Chicago Public Schools through Intercultural Music Production and is a teaching artist for music and theater with Global Voices Initiative and faculty member of Old Town School of Folk Music.
